Boiling water

Posted on by northpoint

Taps that dispense instant boiling water are becoming very popular and are produced by most tap manufacturers. A good option is an all in one version to do regular hot & cold plus boiling water from a separate control lever. The Quooker Fusion is one of the most contemporary and well thought out designs:
Water is dispensed at 100 degrees from the 3 litre tank usually located under the sink. Other makers will keep the temperature to 98 degrees, the water will then run from the tap in a continuous stream without sputtering and manufacturing costs will be less.

Largest integrated fridges

Posted on by northpoint

A good alternative to an American style fridge – the largest available 60cm width integrated larder fridge ( 178cm height ), often combined with a separate freezer located away from the kitchen in a laundry room or basement.

Two models from Neff shown above, K8315X0 larder fridge & K4664X8 with four star freezer compartment. Similar models are manufactured by Bosch, Liebherr & Hotpoint.

Filter taps

Posted on by northpoint

With bottled water costing anything from 500 to 900 per cent more than tap water, making a one off investment in a plumbed water filter system is a greener & more economic option for pure water drinkers. Most of these taps purify water through a charcoal cartridge mounted in the sink cabinet & operated via a third lever ( below left ) or reverse action of the cold lever.

Another option is an independant control dial on the work surface to divert filtered water through a normal tap – the ‘Swich’ System by Abode ( below ) does this very neatly & can be retro fitted to an existing tap, the only requirement being an additional hole in the countertop. A separate dedicated tap for filtered water ( above right ) is a third alternative although it will need to match in style with the main kitchen model.

Built in extractor fans

Posted on by northpoint

When kitchen extractors need to be kept out of sight the ‘canopy’ type is usually specified. Small cheaper models are designed for installation in a 60cm width cabinet & aren’t suitable for 5 burner hobs. A wider 70cm model will be needed – the choice in this width is more limited but here are two¬†that we regularly supply, all are static i.e. non telescopic.

What is quartz ?

Posted on by northpoint

Franke KBX 160 45 20

Quartz, also known as engineered stone or composite quartz, has become increasingly popular over the past ten years. It is manufactured from granules of natural quartz – typically 95%, mixed with a polymer resin and pigment. The resulting material is non porous, stain resistant, hard wearing and available in a boggling number of colours & finishes from many manufacturers across the world. Costs are similar to granite although both have many price bands according to finish and colour.

Undermount sinks

Posted on by northpoint

Undermounted stainless steel sinks suited to granite, quartz and Corian are either single, double or 1.5 bowl configurations. Choice of sink is usually determined by the cabinet size. One of our most popular is this one from Franke – KBX 160 45 20 in the Kubus range which will squeeze into a 75cm width cabinet – more often 80cm.
